After two years of videoconferencing, the Carnot 3BCAR community was hosted by BBF on the Luminy campus in Marseille on 26 and 27 January. The Researchers’ Seminar enabled our community to review recent activities, cover the latest developments within the Carnot network, and discuss future research projects.
The first day featured presentations on network news, including the use of the Carnot 3BCAR’s €2.5 million 2022 allocation—demonstrating a growing budget. This allocation supported 11 research projects (four under the AAP New Generation), 18 proof‑of‑concepts, 3 quality‑certification initiatives, 6 investments to reinforce technological platforms, and 5 international missions. Subsequently, the 6 projects initiated in 2022 (HYSSYH, ZYPO, MEMOS, METHA‑SPRAY, OBEINN and HYPE) presented their initial findings. This was followed by poster presentations and discussions of the 11 selected projects funded in 2022 (CLEANWOOD, ECODROP, COCKESTER, B2IP‑H, SUGARMIX, FOLIBRASS, 3DLIPID, LOOP, AmphiBiEN, Twins4GsPBR and CATAFM). The day concluded with a presentation and tour of the MIO‑IRD laboratory, specialising in the collection and cultivation of extremophilic marine microbial strains (thermophiles, halophiles and barophiles).
The second day served as an internal workshop for reflecting on our Carnot structure and building future projects. It began with an overview of new European regulations and recommendations under the Green Deal, which influence the needs and expectations of industry—including ‘Safe & Sustainable by Design’ (SSbD). Next was a case study of the award‑winning partnership (Grand Prix of partnership research 2022) between the IATE laboratory and the company Antofénol. Finally, our researchers participated in various workshops designed to encourage the emergence of projects leveraging the complementary strengths of the network’s components. The seminar concluded with a visit to the BBF laboratory, which specialises in exploring, understanding and utilising the biological functions of filamentous fungi for biotechnology.
We now look forward to scientific curiosity and creativity in preparing research proposals for the AAP 2023, which will complement the 41 projects already funded by Carnot 3BCAR.
