SOLEXOL

Extraction Solvents for Oilseeds

Biomolécule

Context

The SOLEXOL project aims to develop green solvents or solvent blends for extracting natural compounds—such as lipids and secondary metabolites—from oilseeds and oilseed cakes. To eco-design these novel solvent systems, it implements an innovative reverse-formulation strategy based on computer‑aided design tools.

Objectives

The objectives are twofold: first, to replace (eco‑)toxic solvents, and second, to develop selective extraction processes for target molecules, efficient detoxification (desolventation) of seed cakes, and solvent recycling.

Expected results

The performance of the selected solvents or solvent mixtures from this approach will be evaluated, and the processes for extraction, separation/purification of the extracts, and solvent recycling will be optimized. In addition, the environmental impacts of the alternative solution will be assessed through a life‑cycle analysis.
