Functionalised ricinoleic polyacids (PRIC) via the synthesis of epoxidised synthons – synthesis and valorisation

Biomolécule

Context

By introducing new functionalities into an epoxidised precursor of ricinoleic acid—serving as a platform molecule via its oxirane group—the collaboration between ITERG and LCPO aims to develop novel applications for these ricinoleic acid oligomers across markets such as surface coatings, adhesives, additives and self-healing materials.

Objectives

The goal of this project is the design of novel functional bio‑based polymers derived from castor oil.

Expected results

The project aims to generate an epoxidised ricinoleic acid precursor (sourced from a non‑edible feedstock), which functions as a platform molecule for the production of numerous custom synthons and bespoke polymers with applications across diverse markets.

Target markets

  • Cosmetic, surface coatings, adhesives, additives (especially for 3D printing), self-healing materials, etc.

Type of transfert planned

Patent licensing or research collaborations with private-sector partners:

  • industrial partners to evaluate the products in their actual application contexts

Involved components

  • ITERG
  • UMR 5629 LCPO
