Modulation of single-cell organism protein production through nutritional engineering.
Context
The search for new protein sources is a major concern in food policy. Among the opportunities opened up by biotechnology, the production of Single-Cell Proteins (SCP) represents a potentially interesting pathway for valorizing co-products.
Objectives
The OptiPOU project aims to address a critical bottleneck limiting the use of single-cell proteins—namely, high nucleic acid content and suboptimal amino acid composition—by precisely managing fermentation and extraction/fractionation processes for yeast-derived SCP production.
Expected results
This project constitutes a first step toward developing a specialty‑protein sector based on a process that valorizes waste into protein for food or materials applications.
