Immobilization and characterisation of novel carbohydrate esterases

Biomolécule

Context

In the context of sustainability and bioeconomy development, research must address the valorization of all plant cell wall components. In particular, progress is needed in the extraction and purification of pentose sugars—an often overlooked aspect of biorefinery processes.

Objectives

The objective of this project is to characterize the synergistic interactions between carbohydrate esterases and hemicellulases, in order to formulate an optimal enzyme cocktail and advance knowledge of pentose biorefinery.

Expected results

New enzymes have been cloned, produced, and characterized. A bimodular enzyme was produced exhibiting excellent operational stability under continuous operation while retaining both catalytic activities.
