Role of Oligosaccharide Oxidation by Fungal Enzymes in Eliciting Plant Defences

Biomolécule

Context

Recent years have seen the emergence of strategies aimed at inducing plant resistance. In this context, new natural compounds capable of initiating a defence response in plants remain to be discovered. Among these potential bioactive compounds, oligosaccharides (often tested in mixtures) are considered promising candidates.

Objectives

The project aims to: 1. develop a tailored oligosaccharide library by utilising a collection of hydrolytic and oxidative enzymes; and 2. assess the impact of these oligosaccharides on plant immune responses using a collection of Arabidopsis thaliana transformants.

Expected results

The project is expected to contribute to the development of formulations comprising elicitor oligosaccharide cocktails aimed at enhancing plant immunity, thereby facilitating the sustainable utilisation of plant biomass.
