Synthesis and functionalisation of hyperbranched polymers derived from high erucic acid rapeseed oil

Biomolécule

Context

Hyperbranched polymers, widely used today for their excellent solubility and high functionality, are typically derived from petrochemical reagents. Currently, there are no commercial references for 100% bio‑based hyperbranched polymers.

Objectives

The objective of this project is to first synthesise AB₂-type multifunctional monomers derived from erucic acid-rich rapeseed oil, and subsequently to prepare hyperbranched polymers with controlled structures.

Expected results

The hyperbranched polymers will be functionalised to enhance their amphiphilic character and assess their potential as materials for physical encapsulation strategies. A techno-economic study will be conducted on the most promising polymers for the cosmetics and encapsulation markets.
