Original process for the extraction of native sorbitol in a hydrothermal reactor from by-products of the fruit sector.
Context
Sorbitol is currently considered a promising platform molecule. It is presently synthesized in two steps from cereal starch. However, alternative sources of bioavailable sorbitol, such as downgraded fruits, also exist.
Objectives
The EXTRINDUC project aims to valorize fruit residues by extracting and purifying native sorbitol. The project seeks to sequentially develop dehydration, extraction, and purification steps to produce sorbitol and other valuable sugars. An innovative hydrothermal reactor process will be employed during the project.
Expected results
Development of an extraction process with high sorbitol purification yield.
