AMPHIBIEN

Enzymatic Functionalization of Oligosaccharides for the Synthesis of 100% Bio-based Amphiphiles

Biomolécule

Context

From detergents to specialty chemicals, encompassing the agri-food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical sectors, no area of the chemical industry is exempt from the necessity of using surfactants. This ubiquity is accompanied by risks associated with the toxicity and bioaccumulation of the molecules employed, prompting industry stakeholders to progressively transition towards less polluting, 100% bio-based, and biodegradable products.

Objectives

The innovative objective of the AmphiBiEn project is to utilize fungal oxidoreductases to couple oligosaccharides with fatty amines via aminolysis of the terminal lactone, employing a one-step green synthesis method.

Expected results

This project aims to enhance the understanding of flavoenzyme mechanisms in environments compatible with mild organic synthesis reactions, thereby paving the way for the eco-design of other bio-based molecules of interest.
