Production of Bio‑based Phase‑Change Materials (PCM) from Dry Emulsions
Context
Phase‑change materials (PCMs) are compounds capable of absorbing and releasing a defined amount of energy as latent heat. During a solid/liquid transition, an increase in temperature induces melting of the compound, during which a precise quantity of energy is absorbed. This energy can then be released as heat upon recrystallization. For most applications, the primary challenge is to confine the liquid phase—both to enable efficient recrystallization and to prevent leakage into surrounding materials.
Objectives
The MBCP project proposes to investigate the feasibility of producing a microencapsulated, bio‑based phase‑change material via drying of emulsions.
Expected results
Propose a process that is both less costly and more environmentally friendly than current solutions.
